Druk Path Trek – Trip Overview

Drunken path trek is the best for the one who has a very packed-up schedule. During the trek, you will need to cross the chain of the mountains that usually separates two districts that is Thimphu & Paro. You will be amazed to know that there is a classic walk along the high and windy ridge. Moreover, you also need to cross some of the past ruined forts, which were previously used to guard against the unwanted Tibetan invasion.

Even though the route is sparsely inhabited but there are some beautiful lakes that are packed with fish all the time. Apart from all this, the area is also famous for the remarkable rhododendron forests, which usually bloom in the spring season. If you are really interested to see some spectacular views of the Himalayas then you must visit this area during the winter or autumn time.

ITINERARY

DAY 01

Arrival at the Paro International Airport

After your arrival at the Paro International airport, you will be welcomed in the Bhutanese tradition by one of our representatives. And then after completing all the legal formalities, you will be transferred to your hotel. After getting to the hotel the tour guide will help you to check-in, after which he will explain to you about the tour program. Once, you get refreshed and if you have enough time then you can explore the nearby place so that you can know about the day-to-day life of the Bhutanese people.

DAY 02

Paro Sightseeing

The ruined fortress of the Drugyel Dzong attracts people due to its strategic location of the fort. You will be astonished to know that this was the only fort which uses to defend Paro valley from the Tibetan invasion that use to be from the North during the 17th century. If you are lucky enough that the weather remains clean then you can see Mount Chomolhari which has a magnificent altitude of 7320m and the most astonishing thing is that it can be seen towering over the Dzong.

DAY 03

Hike to Taktsang Monastery

The hike to the Taktsang monastery is uphill and takes around 2 to 3 hrs all the way through the villages and the pine forests. It is firmly believed that a great saint name Padmasambhava came during the 7th century on a flying tigress and then he meditated in the cave for almost 3 months. By the end of the 17th century a monastery was built at that same place and then it became a pilgrimage site for every Bhutanese. Moreover, every Bhutanese tries to visit this place at least once a year.

DAY 04

Trek to Jele Dzong

The trek to Jele Dzong is a short trekking day and so you can relax and really enjoy it a lot. The Paro valley has magnificent scenic beauty which you can enjoy during the hike which is uphill through the pine forest. The best thing about your camp at that place is that it will be around 3100m from the mean sea level. The entire walking time of the trek is just 4 to 5 hours.

DAY 05

Trek Begins for Jangchulakha

You will have to start your trek from Jele Dzong to Jangchulakha. This trek will go uphill through the huge rhododendron trees. If you are visiting this place during the winter season then you can have the chance to encounter the Yak herders. The walking time for this trek is around 4 hours. After which you will have to take your dinner at the camp itself which is at the height of 3650 meters.

DAY 06

Trek to Jigmelanstsho

A trek from Jangchulakha to Jigmelangtsho begins. You will be amazed to see that the trail follows the ridge. And if you have clear weather then you can see the nice view of the mountains. The camp at that point will be near the lake. The best thing about this place is you can see a lake at around 3600 meters. Moreover, you will find that the lake is also filled with some giant salmon trout. You need to spend your night at that place in a camp.

DAY 07

Trek Starts for Phajoding

On the next day, you will start your trek for Phajoding. The trail will take you through the dwarf rhododendron shrubs only after passing two lakes. After you pass the second lake it will ascend gradually. If you reach the top, then you can enjoy the royal view of Mount Gangkar Punsum which has an altitude of 7520 meters. This mountain is also the highest mountain in Bhutan. During the nighttime, you can see that the Thimphu city glitters in a bowl-shaped valley.

DAY 08

Trek to Motithang Followed by a Drive to Thimpu

One of the easiest days for trekking on this tour is the trek to Motithang. You will have to trek for almost three hours and that is also downhill through the pine forest. As soon as you reach Motithang, you will have to drive to Thimphu along with your guide.

DAY 09

Drive to Wangdi After Thimpu Sightseeing

In the morning you can visit the Painting school, the Royal goldsmith, the national library and the handicraft centres. In the afternoon you need to drive for 3 hours to the Wangduephodrang crossing which is the Dochu La Pass. The drive from the pass is almost downhill dropping to the warmer valleys of Lobesa.

DAY  10

Visit Punakha Dzong

Visit Punakha Dzong, which once served as the old capital of Bhutan. It is so nice to see that the fortress is built between the two rivers.

DAY 11

Transfer to Airport

On this day after having your lunch, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to the destination.
